Rotary Club of Belfast

Generation Chef

Generation ChefThis year the Club is working with the Rotary Clubs of Ballymena, Comber, Derry/Londonderry, Enniskillen, Lagan Valley, Lisburn and Newry and the culinary departments of the Belfast Met, Northern, North West, South East, Southern and South West Colleges to present a Generation Chef competition - a unique opportunity for aspiring chefs to hone their skills, gain industry exposure and compete at a national level.

Winners from regional heats will advance to the National Final held at Belfast Met going head-to-head in a test not only of the students’ cooking and hospitality skills but also of their ability to work under pressure in a professional environment.

The Club will be working with the Belfast Met College for the regional heats with teams of 3 - chef, front-of-house team member and chef/team leader - competing in 3 heats, it will be sponsoring the food, helping them getting placements in other catering establishments and judging them.

The competition winners will receive highly sought-after short-term placements in some of Northern Ireland’s most prestigious restaurants and hotels. These placements will give the students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside top chefs and industry leaders, helping them further develop their skills and build their professional networks. In addition to these placements, the Rotary Club of Lisburn, which is coordinating the event, will award bursaries to each member of the winning team, providing additional support as they embark on their culinary careers.

This competition, by providing an opportunity for the students to showcase their skills while gaining invaluable experience in the industry, embodies Rotary’s mission of fostering community growth, connecting people and supporting young talent.
