District meets in Belfast

PolioCertThe Club were delighted that District Governor Barney Callaghan decided to hold District 1160 (Ireland)’s January Quarterly Council meeting at the Stormont Hotel Saturday 28 January 2012 in honour of the Club Centenary.

At the meeting DG Barney presented District Foundation Certificates to Clubs in recognition of their significant contributions to Rotary's $200 Challenge in support of Polio Plus. President Adrian collected the Certificate for the Club in appreciation of its contribution in excess of $6000. (click on images to enlarge)


PDG Howard Caskie Past Polio Plus Coordinator Zone 17 confirmed that the Belfast Club is still the highest Club contributor to End Polio Now Campaign in RIBI, and because of this District 1160 leads all other districts in RIBI. (more about End Polio Now here).

Belfast Past President and Past Assistant Governor Marnette Lyons issued the warmest invitation to all District Rotarians, their partners and friends to attend a Unique Garden Party at Hillsborough Castle in mid summer to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Ireland and the centenary of the Belfast Club. Supporting End Polio Now, those funds will help with a final giant push to End Polio Now and maintain District 1160’s leading position within RIBI. Our Ambassadorial Scholar Woody Hanson talked about the Ambassadorial Scholars visiting Ireland this year and thanked PP Bryan Johnston for being his excellent mentor. (more about Ambassadorial Scholars here).


Delegates were brought up to date with the excellent work of Rombo by District International Service Chair Eileen O'Rourke. (more about Rombo here).


Belfast Rotaract Past President and District Rotaract Organiser Laura Garland offered to send some of the Belfast Rotaractors to any club which needs digital communications skills tuition for any of their members.
