Outstanding Concert

Rowel Friers ConcertPresident Rosemary PP Maurice & Hilary Brooks and Trevor & Elizabeth Dickey enjoyed an outstanding evening at the Rowel Elisio Friers concert Friday 01 September  at Anna’s House, Lisbane, Comber. President Rosemary advises that it was a superb evening and a privilege to hear this charming young man who received standing ovations for his programme which included amongst others: Polonaise No 1 by Chopin, Fly me to the moon and the Pathetique Sonata 1st Movement by Beethoven.

Rowel E FriersAn extremely talented 16 year old Rowel is from Holywood and is the grandson of the cartoonist, illustrator, painter and lithographer of the same name. He was earmarked as a prodigy from when he began playing on a toy keyboard as a toddler, has been playing the piano since he was big enough to reach the keys and has already played at the Carnegie Hall.

Rowel E Friers ConcertTwo other young performers also took part Scott Flanigan, piano accompanist and jazz pianist, who one of the foremost keyboard players on the Irish jazz scene. He performs both locally and nationally and has recently performed with Van Morrison and the Ulster Orchestra.and Gary Hunt, cellist andthe youngest member of the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra, whose Salute D,'Amour and The Swan were very moving. Cantiunculae, a Belfast based chamber choir also sang. The programme is shown left.
