Rotary Club of Belfast

Generation Chef Congratulations!

2.Club team2.Club teamThe final of the inaugural Generation Chef Competition was held on Thursday 01 May at the Belfast Metropolitan College. The Club's congratulations are extended to the Club team (pictured l-r): chefs Rowan Graham and Aaron Agnew and Front of House Jane Bracken who came 2nd only being narrowly beaten by the RC Newry team.

The Club also warmly congratulates the winning RC Newry Club team, President Alan Griffin and Rtn. Eoin McConville (who was also a sponsor) and the Southern Regional College team.

Their long day started at 9.15 and while they were cooking and being judged on their incredible culinary skills sponsors and guests chatted over coffee and delicious fresh scones. The sponsors and guests were then served with the competition food for lunch which was followed by the prize giving. All the finalists received small trophies and the 1st and 2nd place teams jackets, aprons and knives. The Club team were presented with a RC Belfast Cert by PE Heather. The evening concluded with members and guests from the 6 participating clubs enjoying a delicious 4 course dinner. The courses were separated by short comments from the lead Rotarians about their experiences of this new competition. The students themselves were very appreciative and the Belfast Met team presented PE Heather with a bouquet thanking for the benefits and encouragement they received. They will go far in their chosen careers Chef Rowan is moving to Australia for 2 years to experience a broader cuisine, particularly Asian; Aaron has a placement at a Michelin star restaurant in London and FoH Jayne will be using her skills to start with her husband a restaurant in Spain!

We wish them, the winning Newry club team and the other students well in their future careers.

Thanks are also extended to PE Heather, PP Brian Clements and John O'Carroll for their time, support and mentoring of the Met candidates and team over the last months.
