  • Use either digital or traditional methods of photography
  • Show interpretation of a given topic
  • Express their ideas through the medium of photography

 The Rotary Club of Belfast Competition

The Rotary Club of Belfast run a Competition the winners of which go forward to an all-Ireland District Final. Those finalists are then entered in the Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland competition.

This competition is open to young people who either:

  • live in Belfast
  • attend school in Belfast, or are
  • associated with a youth/community group in Belfast

There are three Age Categories

  • JUNIOR:              Aged  7 – 10 years      (Date of Birth 01.09.2000 - 31.08.2004)
  • INTERMEDIATE:  Aged 11 – 13 years     (Date of Birth 01.09.1997 - 31.08.2000)
  • SENIOR:             Aged 14 – 17 years     (Date of Birth 01.09.1993 - 31.08.1997)
Each of the three age categories will be judge on:
  • Technical merit
  • Content and composition
  • Imagination & style
  • Conformity to the theme
The Belfast judging panel will have three judges, one of whom will be a Professional Photographer. All decisions by the judges are final.

2012 Competition

Entrants for the 2012 competition are now being sought.


The 2012 theme is Olympic Dreams or Olympic Spirit with entrants choosing their own topic within the theme.

A portfolio of 4 different prints, either colour or black and white, no larger than A4 size must be submitted together with the completed official entry form downloadable here.


The entry form requires
:

  • the entrant to give, in no more than 50 words, a description of the inspiration for their photographs and how they reflect the theme.
  •  the certification from a parent, guardian or teacher/youth worker that the entry is exclusively the entrant's own work.
  • parental/guardian/carer consent for all entrants under 18.


Judging will take place in early January 2012 and the winners will be announced 17 January 2012 at an exhibition of the photographs starting at 6.00pm in Youth Action, 14 College Sq North, Belfast.

Certificates will be awarded by The Rotary Club of Belfast to all participants and there will be small prizes for the winners.

Overall winners from the RIBI Final will be announced by 30 March 2012.

It is a condition of entry that Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI) shall retain the right to reproduce any entry without fee, unless objection is made in writing on the entry form. 

The winning photographs will remain the property of the photographers. However, they may be displayed, included in Rotary publications and/or shown on Rotary websites stating the winner's age group.
