Christmas Charity Collections
The Club continues with Christmas Charity collections following the success of previous years' campaigns (see side menu).
Collections were made at Tesco Knocknagoney between 10 and 14 December and at the Park Centre between 17 and 22 December. The charities supported were: ShelterBox, Special Olympics Ireland, Aware Defeat Depression and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
We are very thankful to the shoppers as the final sum raised was £4500 which President Alan will distribute to the Charities at a future Club Meeting.
As before, the Park Centre incorporated a Tree of Remembrance - shoppers who donated were invited to write a private personal message on ribbons which were attached to the Tree. Whilst Christmas trees are usually purely decorative, this tree provided a simple, yet poignant, way of remembering, acknowledging and celebrating the lives of loved ones amid the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. We hoped that people would take a look at the tree, with each unique ribbon and that the true spirit of Christmas would be made evident for one special moment whilst supporting local charities.
The Club are again delighted at the response as hundreds of ribbons were attached to the tree and all the ribbons, each with their own story, will be dedicated during the year.
The Club is particularly grateful to all the collectors (members and their families and representatives of the charities) and the Belfast West Rotary Club who collaborated at the Park Centre and whose members helped with the collections there.
