East Grinstead Meridian Rotary Club Visit

EastGrinsteadMeridianVisitors-2370The Club were delighted to welcome to Belfast 9 members and partners from the Rotary Club of East Grinstead Meridian 21-24 April 2013. This fraternal visit by President Chris & Mary Smith, Phil & Shirley Baker, Alan & Sue Collinge, Keith & Barbara Hardin, Brian & Christine Jackson, Ken & Violet Jackson, David & Wendy Roberts, Mike & Joan Schnierer and Bob & Anne Shaw was initiated by a wish from some of their members to visit the Titanic Centre following a speaker who had been in the submersible down to the Titanic wreck. Given that Belfast Club's PP Gordon Millington's wife Norma's son is married to East Grinstead Meridian Club's President's daughter (!) the visit was arranged and organised, with thanks, by PP Gordon.

Rotary International in Britain and Ireland Celebrates International Women's Day 2013

aD03 3997International Women's Day was marked by Rotary International in Britain and Ireland by concurrent celebratory breakfasts in Belfast, Dublin, London, Edinburgh and Cardiff to celebrate the diversity, equality and dual gender involvement of Rotary worldwide. International Women's Day provides the opportunity to globally recognise and applaud achievements and at the breakfast the inaugural Rotary International, Northern Ireland, Woman of the Year Award was presented.

The Belfast breakfast was co-ordinated by Past President Marnette Lyons (Belfast Club) who says this outstanding event happened because of a great team effort and is an excellent example of what Rotary is about. Others members of the team were: Past Presidents Mary Graham (Belfast West Club), Sandra McCabe (Lisburn Club) and Liz Doherty (Belfast East Club).

Visit to Londonderry Club

photo  group -2101A highly successful fraternal vist to the Rotary Club of Londonderry was enjoyed Monday 4 March by the 17 members, Mabel Baird and Norma Millington who set off on the 10.30 bus to Londonderry.

President Gavin Killeen welcomed all, expressed how delighted they were by the visit from their parent Club and Presidents Gavin and Alan exchanged banners.

Christmas Dinner 2012

Xmas2012Dinner2-2053A wonderful evening of fellowship crowned by a delightful Christmas concert, which had the whole room singing (and even being penguins!), was enjoyed by Rotarians and guests at the Ulster Reform Club Monday 10 December 2012.

All present were delighted to sing Happy Birthday and celebrate PP Bill Donaldson’s recent 95th birthday as he blew out the candles on his cake.

District Conference 2012, Galway

District Conf_12President Alan and Fleur were joined by 5 members and partners -ADG Maurice and Hilary Brooks, PPs Adrian & Margaret Kerr, Brian & Rosie Clements, PE Ronnie & Doreen McLean and Rtn Ronnie & Elma Porter- at the District 1160 Annual Conference held in Galway 05-07 October 2012. We were also delighted to have in attendance our new Ambassadorial Scholar Delia, from the Bahamas.

It was an excellent weekend of speakers, Rotary business and Club Awards but most of all, great fellowship.
