Salt Mines Tour 2

Rotarians at_the_crushersandscreens-1588Following the successful tour last year on Tuesday 17 April another 6 intrepid Rotarians (from left) John McCleery, VP Ken Morrison, PP Gordon Millington, PP Brian Clements, PP Albert Baird and Billy McCoubrey ventured deep into the Salt Mines in Carrickfergus sporting very fetching supplied overalls, helmets and miners lamps. The visit was organised by Rtn Doris Houston who they left on the surface this time and who expected their tour to last about two hours but they found it so interesting it lasted for over three!

Doris and Friends at the Tudor Cinema

TheFilmsEnd-1536Doris and Friends (as depicted on the outside billboard) enjoyed a wonderful evening of fellowship on Wednesday 22 February at the cosy Tudor Cinema. Comber. Noel Spence (owner of the Tudor Cinema) had arranged for that to welcome the members and guests arriving for the screening of the film The Illusionist (unfortunately it was too dark to get a photograph of it).

The Illusionist was a rare treat.

Unique District Council Dinner

Group2-1484Rotarians throughout Ireland met in Belfast to celebrate the Centenary of Rotary in Ireland.

Saturday 28 January 2012, the Club were delighted to organise a dinner in the Long Gallery, Parliament Buildings for Rotary Clubs throughout Ireland who had gathered in Belfast to attend the Council Meeting of Rotary District 1160 (Ireland). Council Meeting report can be seen here.

The dinner, recognising the Centenary of The Rotary Club of Belfast by District 1160 was kindly hosted, on behalf of the Club, by Michelle McIlveen MLA. Picture shows from left Ursula and District Governor Barney Callaghan, Michele McIlveen MLA, President Adrian and Margaret Kerr. Christmas Dinner 2011

RotarianDiners3-1448On Monday 12 December 2011 Rotarians and guests enjoyed another wonderful Christmas Dinner Meeting at the Ulster Reform Club.

This excellent evening of good food and warm fellowship concluded with an excellent concert from the renowned tenor Winston Irwin (accompanied by our own Past President Brian Clements) who had the whole room singing carols and Christmas songs!

A Special Day

on Monday, 14 November 2011.

aDSC 2793-1390The Club proudly celebrated the Centenary at a 21 Royal Gun Salute fired at noon Monday 14 November 2011, the birthday of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.

This singular event, organised by Headquarters 38 (Irish) Brigade, was one of the simultaneous salutes also held in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Gibraltar, York and Stirling.
