Rotary Club of Belfast

Inspiring R-City

R City BrochureClub members VP Ken Nixon, Past President Brian Clements, Past President David Boyd, Eric Rainey and John McCleery had an inspiring visit to R-City, the Club’s 2018 John Savage Award recipients on Monday 04 February when they met founders Alan Waite and Thomas Turley who revealed the R-City project’s vision and effectiveness was providing something very special indeed. They were also privileged to have a discussion with the highly impressive Passionist priest Father Gary Donegan. The Club have offered its support to them particularly in providing interview skills, CV preparation etc. and wish them continued success in their work.

Situated in the Houben Centre at Holy Cross on the Twaddell Avenue interface, R-City has since 2013 run very impressive and successful programmes to develop young people bringing both communities together in leadership and development projects. They are aimed not just at developing youth capacity and contribution to their own communities but also appreciating that there is a wider world. They have also taken the model to South Africa and a group leaves this week to assist the project in a township there.
